The Catskills are a popular recreational area featuring a protected forest preserve called Catskill Park known for hiking skiing fishing and beautiful autumn foliage. The area was historically a major summer resort destination and is known in literature as the setting for Rip Van Winkle.
The mirror-still waters of the Adirondacks refer to the thousands of tranquil lakes ponds and rivers found within the vast Adirondack Park in upstate New York.
