The Oregon Coast is a spectacular 362-mile (583 km) stretch of coastline bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Coast Range mountains to the east. It is famous for its rugged, dramatic scenery, featuring towering sea cliffs, basalt headlands (like Cape Perpetua and Cape Foulweather), numerous sea stacks, and a succession of wide, public beaches and smaller bays.
The forests surrounding the iconic, snow-capped Mount Hood (Oregon’s highest peak at 11,249 feet) are characterized by their dense, lush vegetation and high annual precipitation, often manifesting as fog and mist, especially at mid-elevations.
The valley is Oregon’s largest wine region, spanning 150 miles (240 km) south from Portland. It is home to nearly two-thirds of the state’s wineries, with most vineyards concentrated in the foothills and ridgelines west of the Willamette River.
